Workforce Development in Afterschool: Connecting Youth to Careers, Skills & Possibilities

Description: Afterschool programs are powerful spaces for young people to explore their interests, develop skills, and connect what they are learning to the world of work. This interactive training introduces workforce development through an afterschool lens, exploring how educators can incorporate career awareness, skill development, real-world experiences, and relationships and pathways into everyday programming. Participants will explore creative ways to make career exploration engaging and relevant for youth, with a focus on STEM careers and hands-on learning experiences.
Objectives:
1. Explore a variety of STEM careers and identify ways to connect youth interests and existing afterschool activities to career possibilities.
2. Partake in a career showcase activity that introduces young people to a career and highlights the skills, experiences, and pathways connected to it.
Goal: Build afterschool educatorsā confidence and capacity to integrate meaningful workforce development and career exploration opportunities into youth programming.
